Indigenous Engagement

The Kichton Group of Companies is committed to empowering the people and communities throughout our operational footprint across Western Canada. We implement a proactive and collaborative approach to our Indigenous Engagement initiatives and strive to forge lasting relationships rooted in trust and transparency with our Partners.

Active Partnerships

The Kichton Group holds an active partnership with the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation (CPFN) local to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo through the Nation’s Economic Development firm: The NOHA Group (https://nohagroup.com). Several Kichton Group entities have executed successful projects in partnership with the CPFN through our partnership.

In addition to direct revenue contributions, our partnership has “assisted the Nation by creating employment opportunities for community members, supporting the community with the tools and furnishing for cultural events and yearly bursary intake, funding for legacy projects with a resolve of sustainable development and approved by Chief and Council. [Our] partnership also provides equipment and labour to develop farmlands and a golf course in the community. The Kichton Group ensures the traditional ways are a part of the culture” – Keith McGrath, CEO NOHA Group.

The Kichton Group of Companies are actively seeking to expand our Indigenous Partnerships with Communities throughout Western Canada. We’re currently exploring Partnership opportunities with Indigenous Communities across Western Canada and look forward to building on our established Partnerships. Our subsidiary entities that form the Kichton Group have successfully executed projects in partnership with Horse Lake FN, Duncan’s FN, Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement.

Economic Growth Initiatives

The Kichton Group is committed to fostering the preservation of cultural and traditional values and extending our practices through economic growth initiatives in the communities where we work. We remain committed to addressing barriers such as discrimination and marginalization that are more common to temporary or seasonal work opportunities.

By developing and implementing policies and programs to achieve this vision, the Kichton Group is guided by the following principles:

  • To seek sustainable initiatives that not only enhance our Group but the communities where we operate.
  • To stay informed and be supportive of Indigenous issues that affect our communities and create barriers for healthy living and strong economic futures.
  • To value our youth and recognize opportunities where employment, training, education, and career enhancement could bring benefits to the future generations.
  • To understand current and residual barriers that make it difficult for the Kichton Group to carry out initiatives for employment, training, education, and career enhancement within communities.
  • Recognizing opportunities of mentorship for the current and future workforce.
  • Acknowledging the wisdom of a collective community, especially including Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and leaders, by collaborating values and finding solutions for economic stability and enhancement.
  • Having a clear process for issue management that is inclusive with all parties impacted.
